Solving inverse problems is central in geosciences and remote sensing. Very often a mechanistic physical model of the system exists that solves the forward problem. Inverting the implied radiative transfer model (RTM) equations numerically implies, however, challenging and computationally demanding problems. Statistical models tackle the inverse problem and predict the biophysical parameter of interest from radiance data, exploiting either in situ data or simulated data from an RTM. SUMMARYParametric approaches have been used widely to model animal growth and study the impact of growth profile on performance. Individual variation is often not considered in such approaches. However, non-parametric modelling allows this. Such an approach, based on spline functions, was used to study the importance of growth profiles from age 0 to 15 months (i.e. insemination) on milk yield and composition in primiparous cows. A dataset of 447 heifers was used for analysis of growth performance; 296 of them were also used to study impact on lactation. The Liebowitz Social Anxiety Scale (LSAS) is the most frequently used instrument to assess social anxiety disorder (SAD) in clinical research and practice. Both a self-reported (LSAS-SR) and a clinician-administered (LSAS-CA) version are available. Macrostructural EEG characterization based on nonparametric change point segmentation: application to sleep analysis

In the present investigation a new methodology for macrostructural EEG characterization based on automatic segmentation has been applied to sleep analysis. A nonparametric statistical approach for EEG segmentation was chosen, because it minimizes the need for a priori information about a signal. The method provides the detection of change-points i.e. boundaries between quasi-stationary EEG segments based on the EEG characteristics within four fundamental frequency bands (delta, theta, alpha and beta). Parametric and nonparametric A-Laplace problems: Existence of solutions and asymptotic analysis

We give sufficient conditions for the existence of weak solutions to quasilinear elliptic Dirichlet problem driven by the A-Laplace operator in a bounded domain Ω. The techniques, based on a variant of the symmetric mountain pass theorem, exploit variational methods. We also provide information about the asymptotic behavior of the solutions as a suitable parameter goes to 0 + . In this case, we point out the existence of a blow-up phenomenon. The analysis developed in this paper extends and complements various qualitative and asymptotic properties for some cases described by homogeneous differential operators.

The aim of this paper is to estimate the authors’ rights collection frontier within the collection zones into which the Valencia Region (Spain) has been divided. Morphological parameters as predictors of successful correction of Class III malocclusion

The aim of the study was to assess pre-treatment cephalometric parameters and measurements of the size of the apical bases as predictors of successful orthodontic correction of Class III malocclusions. Pre- and post-treatment lateral cephalograms and study models of 80 completed Class III subjects were examined to obtain 23 cephalometric parameters taken mainly from the analyses of McNamara and Schwarz, and to measure the size of the apical bases.
